NSU's FNP and AGACNP students already know Palm Beach County as the home of their on-campus intensives. For students who live here, it is also a county where hospitals put the preceptor in writing: Tenet's Palm Beach Health Network wants a signed preceptor agreement before you start, and Baptist's Boca Raton Regional Hospital wants the preceptor confirmed before the request. The county, and NSU's Palm Beach campus

West Palm Beach is the county seat; Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington and Jupiter are the other large cities. Far to the west, Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay sit in the South Central Rural Area of Opportunity.

NSU's Palm Beach campus hosts the FNP and AGACNP intensives. FNP students attend NSG 5502 there for two days and take NSG 5542 and NSG 5550 at Palm Beach or Tampa Bay; AGACNP students attend NSG 5502, the four-day NSG 5620 and NSG 5650, all at Palm Beach. The PMHNP page says its single intensive is at Tampa Bay while its own table lists NSG 5502 at Palm Beach, so PMHNP students should confirm with their program director. NSU publishes no dates. Living nearby turns an intensive into a short drive, which leaves more of that week for your preceptor; the intensives page has the track-by-track list.

The Florida Center for Nursing places Palm Beach in its Southeast region with St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River and Okeechobee, a region its 2025 projections name, with the Southwest, as the slowest to improve in NP supply against demand through 2037.

What Palm Beach hospitals publish

Here is what four of the county's hospital groups have put in public view about student rotations. None of it says whether NSU has an agreement with the system.

Tenet's guidelines, dated 2021 and still linked in 2026, add working rules: you stay with your preceptor at all times, you get no EMR access, and you may not exceed 12 hours in 24. If your preceptor is employed by Tenet Florida Physician Services, that group clears you first. Jupiter's older 2024 page said the school had to hold an affiliation and submit the request with at least three weeks' notice; whether that still applies is unclear. HCA's rules at other Florida hospitals should not be assumed to apply at JFK or Palms West.

Clinics, the VA and which course they fit

The county's health centers are natural first calls for NSG 5549 and the other primary-care FNP courses: HRSA lists the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, FoundCare, Genesis Community Health and Florida Community Health Centers, and Florida Atlantic University runs a health center look-alike. HRSA designates a shortage area around Belle Glade and Pahokee and counts five health centers as facility shortage areas. Public health services run through the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County.

AGACNP students working through NSG 5629 and later courses need inpatient units, and Tenet's agreement form is built for a named preceptor, so St. Mary's and Good Samaritan are worth raising with your clinical coordinator once you have one. Palm Beach Children's Hospital operates at St. Mary's, and FAU's Schmidt College of Medicine is in Boca Raton. For PMHNP courses, outpatient psychiatry and community mental health programs are the settings to target.

The West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System runs the Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center and clinics in Boca Raton and Delray Beach. Its training page says internships are primarily arranged through schools that hold VA academic affiliations.

Where a 150-mile placement could land from West Palm Beach

A student who names nobody gets a coordinator placement somewhere inside 150 miles of the home ZIP code, and it cannot be negotiated afterward. From West Palm Beach the radius reaches south through Broward into Miami-Dade, north past the Treasure Coast to the Space Coast, and west across the state to Fort Myers and Naples. A Jupiter FNP student could be assigned in Homestead, then owe that site hours every single week.

Florida's preceptor rule in Palm Beach

Tenet's form asks for your preceptor's signature; Florida asks for their license. Every Palm Beach preceptor needs Florida licensure as an APRN, MD, DO or dentist, and you, as the student, must be an RN licensed under chapter 464; the Florida preceptor rule guide explains why. Protocol and autonomous NPs both qualify.

What does Tenet's Palm Beach Health Network need from an NP student?

Before the first day, an attestation naming your preceptor and a preceptor agreement listing dates and units, which the preceptor signs to confirm they will precept you. During the rotation you stay with the preceptor at all times, have no EMR access and work no more than 12 hours in 24. Tenet's documents do not name a platform or state an affiliation rule, so check with your clinical coordinator.

Does Jupiter Medical Center take NSU nurse practitioner students?

Jupiter lists Nurse Practitioner, APRN and DNP students among the roles its clinical experience program accepts. An older page said only students from affiliated schools could apply, through the school's coordinator, with three weeks' notice; that page is no longer linked. Whether NSU is affiliated with Jupiter is not public; raise Jupiter with your clinical coordinator before contacting anyone there.

I live in Belle Glade. What does NSU's placement radius mean for me?

Measured from the Glades, 150 miles reaches both coasts: Fort Myers and Naples to the west, Broward and Miami-Dade to the southeast. A coordinator placement could land on either side, with weekly drives. Health centers serving the Belle Glade and Pahokee shortage area are worth asking about primary-care precepting, especially for FNP students.

Can I use the West Palm Beach VA for clinical hours?

The VA's training page says internships are primarily arranged through schools with VA academic affiliations, and VA decides how many trainees it takes and where. The Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center and the Boca Raton and Delray Beach clinics are school-level routes. Tell your clinical coordinator if a VA clinician has offered to precept you.
