Florida's rules in one place
Florida requires a qualified preceptor at a Florida site to hold a Florida license as an APRN, physician or dentist, and requires the NP student to be an RN licensed under Florida's nursing chapter. Most Florida NPs practice under a physician protocol, while primary-care NPs with 3,000 supervised hours can register for autonomous practice. Do I need a Florida RN license for NSU clinicals in Florida?
Florida's rule for NP students at Florida sites says the student must be an RN licensed under chapter 464. Florida is a Nurse Licensure Compact state, but whether a multistate license from another compact state satisfies that wording is unclear, so confirm with NSU. AGACNP students need a Florida RN license for admission. See the license guide.
How far can NSU place me if I don't name a preceptor?
Anywhere within a 150-mile radius of your residential ZIP code, according to NSU's nursing handbook, and NSU says that placement is not negotiable once made. From most Florida cities that radius crosses several counties. The 150-mile rule page explains what it means in practice.
Which NSU campuses matter for APRN students?
The intensives for the FNP and AGACNP tracks run at the Palm Beach campus, with some FNP intensives also offered at Tampa Bay. The BSN runs at Fort Lauderdale/Davie, Miami and Fort Myers. NSU's Orlando and Jacksonville campuses have no nursing program. See on-campus intensives.
Does Florida pay preceptors?
Florida has no preceptor tax credit, and it has no personal income tax for one to attach to. The state's TEACH program pays qualifying community sites, such as federally qualified health centers, for hours of clinical training they host for primary-care APRN students. See the TEACH guide.
