Jacksonville and Northeast Florida: NP clinicals for NSU students

Five counties, one metro, and an NSU campus without nursing

The Jacksonville metro covers Duval (Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach), St. Johns (St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach), Clay (Orange Park and the county seat, Green Cove Springs), Nassau (Fernandina Beach, Hilliard, Callahan) and Baker. The Florida Center for Nursing's Northeast region is the same five counties plus Putnam.

NSU does run a regional campus in Jacksonville, and it offers no nursing program. Your MSN APRN courses are online, and the on-campus intensives take you to Palm Beach, with some FNP intensives also held at Tampa Bay; the intensives page lists them by track.

Baptist Health, UF Health and St. Vincent's

Baptist Health in Jacksonville posts no general NP placement page. What it does publish is a year-long Behavioral Health placement for PMHNP students, fall through spring at 20 or more hours a week. After their program clears them, applicants send a transcript, CV, cover letter and one recommendation by the fourth week of April, and Baptist states that candidates may not contact preceptors directly. A year-long commitment spans more than one NSU PMHNP clinical (NSG 5719, NSG 5729, NSG 5739, NSG 5799), so ask your clinical coordinator how it would map onto your sequence first.

UF Health Jacksonville publishes nothing for NP students on its education, nursing or sitemap pages, although the UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville is based there. Ascension St. Vincent's lists lab, residency and imaging programs only, and nothing turned up for HCA Florida Memorial or Orange Park. What NSU's two routes look like from Duval County

NSU's choice comes with a clock. A student who has lined up a preceptor and site reports them to the clinical coordinator two full semesters before the clinical course, and the coordinator vets both. A student who reports no one gets a coordinator placement up to 150 miles from home, measured from the residential ZIP code, and cannot trade it once made. From Jacksonville that radius reaches Gainesville, Daytona Beach and Orlando and runs well into southeast Georgia.
